Our Technology Sees the Details

Modern eye care technology helps us to enhance our standard of care. We use eye care technology such as OCT scans, MYAH, and more to get a comprehensive understanding of your eye health and visual function.

At Thornhill Vision Care, we provide preventive healthcare by monitoring for eye disease and catching conditions early. By using eye care technology, we can detect tiny changes to your vision or eye structures that could indicate eye conditions before you notice symptoms.

Why Does Technology Matter?

Technology has advanced eye care to allow us to see microscopic details and track your eye health over time. With diagnostic tests like an OCT scan, we can see the layers of your retina without even touching your eye.

By using our suite of diagnostic and treatment technologies, we can enhance our level of care and provide earlier, accurate diagnoses and more effective treatments.

Topcon MYAH

We use the Topcon MYAH for a variety of services. This device helps us to comfortably fit contact lenses by mapping the corneal topography of your eyes.

It can also measure the axial length, or the distance between the cornea (at the front of the eye) and the retina (at the back of the eye). This measurement is crucial for myopia control. It allows us to detect eye elongation in nearsighted children, which signals myopia progression, and helps us track the efficacy of our myopia management methods.

If you’re dealing with dry eye symptoms, you may also see this instrument during your exam. It can capture images of your meibomian glands, which are responsible for producing the oil layer that prevents your tears from evaporating too quickly. With an easy scan, we can check on the health of your meibomian glands and determine if they need any support.

Regardless of why you need a MYAH scan, your data will be tracked over time through the device’s software. It allows us to see changes in your eye health or shape and determine whether our treatment methods are working.

Retinal Mapping and OCT Scans

Retinal mapping is an integral part of routine eye assessments. By taking regular retinal images, we can monitor the health of your retina, blood vessels, and optic nerve. This scan is important for all patients, but especially necessary for those living with glaucoma, retinal diseases, high blood pressure, and diabetes.

Optical coherence tomography, or OCT, is an excellent tool to monitor retinal and overall eye health. OCT uses light signals to map the layers of your retina, creating a cross-sectional image that can help us monitor your eye health. OCT scans can help us detect signs of macular disease, glaucoma, retinal detachments, and other eye conditions.

Neither retinal mapping nor OCT devices touch your eyes. The scans are quick. You’ll rest your chin and forehead on a pad and look into the camera while a technician performs the test.

Visual Field Testing

Commonly called peripheral vision, your visual field refers to the entire area you can see without moving your eyes from a central point. A visual field test measures how far up, down, left, and right your eyes can see without moving and how sensitive your vision is in different parts of your visual field.

Certain eye diseases, like glaucoma, can subtly damage your vision and gradually reduce your visual field without you noticing. By measuring your visual field regularly, we can maintain a baseline to compare future changes against. If we notice changes in your visual field, it may indicate an emerging eye condition.
